New Haven Quakers – multiple waves to abolish nukes

The New Haven Friends Meeting (Quakers) has taken Global Wave 2015 to heart and is engaging its members, and other peace supporters from New Haven CT (USA), in three different ‘Goodbye nuclear weapons waves’.

In the first wave action, New Haven citizens are invited to write a short phrase on why they want to wave goodbye to nuclear weapons, and what they treasure in a peaceful, nuclear-free world. Individual photos are then taken of them with their phrases. Click here to see a facebook gallery of Global Wave New Haven individual photos.

The second action will be a group ‘wave goodbye to nuclear weapons’ at the Green Festival in East Rock, New Haven on April 25. The wave will follow after the Rock-to-Rock Earth Day ride on April 25 - a fundraising and awareness raising ride with about 1000 riders.

New Haven Quakers are then inviting citizens to join them on a Peace Train to New York city on April 26where they will participate in the Peace and Planet rally and the Global Wave action where 15,000 people will ‘wave goodbye to nuclear weapons.’

The New Haven Friends, like most Quaker groups, has a deep commitment to peace, non-violence and disarmament. This originates from the founding principles of Quakers as expressed in the 1661 Quaker Declaration to Charles II: “We utterly deny all outward wars and strife and fightings with outward weapons, for any end or under any pretense whatsoever. And this is our testimony to the whole world."

New Haven Quakers continues this tradition through a number of projects to advance peace, justice, non-violence and reconciliation.

New Haven Quakers are working closely with several peace organizations in the community, including  Promoting Enduring Peace, a non-governmental organisation that campaigns against militarism and confers a Gandhi Peace Prize to honour people who have made a significant contribution to the promotion of an enduring international peace founded on justice, self-determination, diversity, compassion, and harmony, achieved through cooperative and non-violent means—in the spirit of Gandhi.

Promoting Enduring Peace, the Greater New Haven Peace Council, No Nukes No Wars CT and the National Association of Social Workers (CT Branch) join the New Haven Friends in promoting the Peace and Planet rally, Global Wave 2015 and the Peace Train to New York.

All aboard! (and remember to wave goodbye to nukes)!
